This is a free, beginner-friendly crochet project for those who are new to amigurumi (crochet plush toys or décor).

This pattern includes three different ornaments: a bauble (round) ornament, a mini bauble ornament, and a light bulb (elongated) ornament. The ornament is worked in the main color, and the cap (top) is worked in a contrasting color. The ornament cap is worked the same for all ornaments.

Fig. 1 - form a loop

With your hook, pull the yarn tails from the chain into the hole in the middle of the ornament cap.

Fig. 2 - pull the yarn tails into the middle of the cap

Knot the three tails inside the cap together a few times, creating a large knot on the inside of the ornament cap so that it won’t slip through the hole in the middle. The chain 12 becomes your hanging loop. These tails will be hidden inside the cap, so there is no need to weave them in.

Fig. 3 - finished ornament cap

Use the long tail from the end of the ornament cap’s third round to stitch the cap to the top of the ornament with the yarn needle. Stitch the last round of the cap and the penultimate round of the ornament together and weave in the end.

Fig. 4 - stitch the cap to the top of the ornament

These ornaments can be made with any size yarn. Use a hook that’s a size or two smaller than recommended for the yarn so that your stitches are tight and the stuffing doesn’t poke through.
